Everything here is a go! Geeeezzzzz I'm overflowing with eggs/peeps/big chickens...i'm addicted AND I DON'T CARE  :woot !!!!!!!!!!!! i am officially the crazy chicken hoarder lady :thumbsup . never knew that chickens are like a box of chocolates...never know whatcha gonna get, or have just one. So the lastest count on eggs are...48 cooking away. YIPPPEEE :yiipchick !!!!!!!!!!!
I am right there with you. Need more coops built ASAP. I have 40 chicks in brooders and more hatching. I can't get enough.

So talked to my sons teacher and they are going to hatch eggs in class. Her boys are doing their jobs so I offer my eggs. She wanted to pay me for them but I refused. She only wanted 18. So I packaged up 3 polish 2 bannie. 13 RIR x silkie. She aso asked if I would be selling any chicks. Well of course bring your son and pick out what ever you want. She said she would next pay day. Anyways I love this teacher. She is the best. She has taught all three of my kids.
I went to chick trailer and checked large incubator and an EE was hatching I quickly opens it up and grabbed baby and egg. Put baby in my shirt and egg shell in shoe box. Took my daughter to dr with baby in my shirt keeping it warm. Nurse thought it was my phone chirping. Nope it was a real baby. Showed them after apt was over. They were laughing so hard. ( now they think I am crazy). Lol. Went to school to pick up son and gave teacher eggs. She said thank you and turned to walk away. I said wait and handed her shoe box with chick and note to her son. She almost cried and let out a beautiful laugh when she open the box. I told her that chick was on me.
I love making people smile and happy. I can't wait to hear from her on Monday.

I had 10 babies hatch today and have more pipped. I know I forgot to count my pips. I will be surprised in the morning!

Candled incubator #2 today to find one more guy veining alonge - up to 10/24 from 9! Culling all the duds in #1 had the unintended effect of making the humidity go from good to low - guess all those duds were really helping keep it stable. Back to injecting a couple ml of water every 8 hours or so.

Also, neat trick - putting the candle light on the red plugs gives a nice "night light" effect in the incubator. With the plug out putting it there is a soft white light. It makes for neat pictures.

oh, and another question, if i have early hatchers, do i separate them from the hen until the other eggs hatch? will she abandon the eggs?

Leave the hen alone!! She will stay on the young and wait until the others hatch. - She will abandon the nest if you distress her too much. Also sometimes if they are stressed they will kill the babies so leave her be! When she is ready she will up and leave the nest and nothing you do can make her sit again especially if she has chicks with her. Usually the ones she leaves are dead none hatchers anyhow. But I think you said you have some from a friend and don;t know how old they are???? If she gets off the nest and there are eggs still left you can take them into a bator. - you can float test or candle them to try to see what is going on. ( It does sound like your egg you did candle is near hatching!) If she abandons the nest - with the first hatchers I would take the others into the bator and give it a few more days. Then float test just to see if there is any life. Pitty you don;t know for sure the dates but there can't be much more than 7-10days between at the outside?. - It is likely you will get a staggard hatch. A good hen will stay on the nest until the viable ones are all hatched, If she isn;t disturbed and can get to food and water easily. She may todle off to have a poo and return immediately - most times they just stay on the nest. But if she ups and leaves with all the chicks and goes off for a dander and has a big poo chances are it is over and the eggs that are left are abandoned. - It is up to you if you give them and few more days in the bator. You can sneak extra chicks under mom at night when she isn;t looking. - Though my hen wouldn;t have any of that. I had two chicks from the bator and she had 4 and she would NOT take the other two no matter what we did. She could count Darn!

Though worm hunting is a fun occupation for potential chick mommas and pappas! lol - DH and I did many days of that with "our babies! " While the hen strutted about tutting at our feble efforts at raising baby chicks!
