This is my first time raising chicks and they’re still alive at 5 weeks!
I have only one aracauna in this batch and it has grown much faster and feathered sooner than the others. Today I also noticed her/he trying to peck at me as I held each of them in turn for inspection. Just wondering if the growth and attitude is just breed and personality or if I got a roo by mistake.

Aracauna’s are rumpless birds. No tail and they have cheek feathers that stick out (I forget what they’re called).
And, most of all, they’re extremely expensive and difficult to find.

Oh, I thought Aracaunas were Easter Eggers.
Got these at the feed store and they must have labeled them wrong. Oy, so much to learn.
Each one of us started out not knowing anything.
Learning about them is so fun!
I highly recommend this book. It has beautiful color photos and great explanations of breed features and feather patterns.

The confusion results from feed stores (and some hatcheries) indiscriminately labeling EE as Aracauna or Americana, etc.
I have learned how to tell the difference.
I already posted about Aracauna’s.

Ameraucana’s have a standard of perfection (SOP) and will always be sold by color: Black, Blue, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, Wheaten & White. There may be more colors accepted now idk. They cost less than Araucana’s but more than EE. You can find them but usually only through breeders, few hatcheries have them.

Easter Eggers are basically mixed breeds with some genes from Araucana/Ameraucana.
That’s why they lay blue eggs.
But they’re always a grab bag of colors and often several colors on the same bird. And they’re pretty easy to find; most hatcheries have them as well as feed stores.
EE are great though because they’re inexpensive and fun because you get to watch them feather out and see what amazing colors you’ll get!

I hope this helps!

It's a pullet my opinion is its not too hard to tell, she has a poofy saddle and rounder feathers

She is young but here is a pic of my 4 week old ee roo you can tell the difference I think
