Araucana, Ameraucana, or EE??? How can I Tell

Most likely you are going to get some that lay either green or blue eggs..but like Speckledhen stated there could be a few hens that will lay brown eggs. I have a few EE's and a few of mine lay brown eggs. Still good birds!

Thanks for the info. I will keep my fingers crossed for Garret's sake. Personally it doesn't matter to me. He is sitting right here though and he says...I know they will lay the green eggs! I think he just wants to say that he really does eat green eggs and ham!

YaY for EEs!

One of mine started laying the prettiest green eggs! A couple of yours do look rumpless, but it could be the angle of the picture.

I'm expecting (4/7) 10 ameracauna chicks from MM. The catalog states color range from turquiose to shades of brown, also states recommended for egg laying color not exhibition. I too am hoping for mostly shades of green eggs. But I will be happy with any color egg, once they're old enough to lay. I can just envision that basket full of different colors of eggs.

Could you call the hatchery to find out what kind they carry? Well, that is, if you're sure what hatchery they came from.

They are so cute!! I have 6 baby Araucanas (or that's what the hatchery calls them) and I just think they are so cute. I may post a pic of mine to see what everyone things they are for sure.

more than likely they are easter eggers/americauna ... We run an ace hardware in wv and also purchase our chicks from hoovers and that is all that they carry. They do not offer the true araucana breed. they are a mix between the two and the chicks throw a turquoise egg instead of the blue egg that the araucana should throw
