Araucana thread anyone?

Absolutely, 100% agree with this!!! Mixing colors is another pet peeve of mine, and another good reason to keep separate pens.

Curious, are your duckwings from Lanae Cash? I know she is in CA and raises beautiful duckwing Araucanas.

Another side effect of Edd's birds (low vigor). A few years back there was a lady in Ohio that wanted to start breeding Araucanas, and purchased quite a few birds from Edd's stock to start. She had major fertility problems due to short backs, and birth defects in some that did hatch. She threw in the towel a year or so ago.

Yes, my duckwing are from Cash. She was generous enough to send me some hatching eggs. Although we're in the same state and she's roughly 4-5 hours away from me, it was a rough shipping. She sent me extras, but 1/4 of the eggs cracked in transport. They were packaged well, so with shipping it's a lottery. Hatched out mostly silver duckwings. I have 1-2 BBR pullets. I may have one BBR roo that hatched, but have to double check. Chicks hatched out healthy and bigger than normal chicks, I was impressed.

Love the duckwing color. Excited to see them grow out.

Looks like hatching from Edds because I have a few like that. In general, just know that Edd's birds are non-standard Araucanas. They do not match Standard of Perfection (SOP) for the Araucana breed. He has his own philosophy for the Araucana breed. I actually hatched a few of his black line as well, but ended not keeping any of the chicks because the eye color on them were terrible.

I've noticed that the Araucana circle is not as black and white as the Ameraucana circle. In the Ameraucana circle, anything that deviates from SOP is considered an Easter Egger. Looks like Araucana enthusiasts appreiaciates the breed a little more, even if they are non-standard. Just know that from a breeders point of view, SOP is like a guide. Most people would agree that is what you should strive for. Egg color, etc. follows after SOP.

At best, the brown one looks closest as a BBR hen (not the wheaton BBR).
Actually those came from a gentleman from Georgia. All the babies I got from Edd got tails.

What color are the hens on the front of the picture? They both sisters but one is sort of silver, the other one cooper tones!

See any resemblance? You should ask the GA person where he got his initial stock.

Greetings from CA.

Today is hatch day for some BCM, AR and OE mix of BCM hen x AR roo. 5/9 made it to lockdown and so far 3 have hatched. 1 is currently pipping and 1 is in the wind. One of my AR hen is brooding the 5. I'm hoping that the OE mix will be rumpless. That would be awesome. Will check later today to see if any of the OE chicks have tuffs.

Next week, I have some Ameraucana eggs hatching as well. They were shipped from East coast. Shipping eggs have been tough this year, whether instate or out of state. Candled last Friday and 1/2 had development that stopped or egg is just bad. Comes from a reputable breeder so it just means that shipped eggs are being handled pretty tough.

Anyways, my gal is growing up nicely. Her toughs are humongous and projects both directions. I'm surprised the other juvies haven't picked them.

The duckwing is feathering out nicely as well. Can't wait to see them fully grown.

In love with the duckwing color. Even in the Ameraucana breed, I find it amazing. With AR, even more amazing.

Finally got around to snapping pics of my OE Araucanas. Mom was BCM dark chocolate eggs x DT Araucana dad.

Out of the three that hatched, 2 looks DT. Here are the DT. Chick 1 has huge R tuff and the a smaller L tuff. Chick 2 chick has smaller DT.
