Araucana thread anyone?

I got eggs from a guy from Georgia, all 8 eggs/chicks are rumpless, I guess it’s a hit or miss. How is the meat? I mean taste and amount? I got plenty of freezer camp chicks from this hatch.

Araucanas are on the skinny side. More like game birds. However, to me game bird has best flavor for boiling/soup dishes.

As this chick grows out, I'm leaning towards pullet. Generally the feather color of males are more distinctive. Starting to show penciling around the neck are, similar to one of my hens. Educated guess, questionable is from this hen. Huge double tuffs, flies well and hard to take a photo!

Will post some duckwing growouts later.

Here are a few of my duckwing pullets. One gal has a huge R tuff. Most are cleanface and I have 2 pullets that have tails. Also attached some of my other Araucanas as well. Orange zip was tagged at hatch to be BBR. Yellow zip tagged to be GDW. No zip guessed to be SDW. Again, only educated guess due to coloring of hatch, will know for sure once it grows out. CA heat is 100s next few days so been giving them extra water.

Beautiful birds! I’m bad identifying colors, but getting there! Are you hatching your own eggs?

I've hatched eggs from my offspring from Edd's bird. Didn't have broodies so did artificial incu but the hatch rate was not very good. Ones that hatched out, 1/4 died. Low vigor, although the ones that hatch all had DT.

The duckwing growouts are from a different breeder also from CA. Planning on making a few pens later this season if they lay by late Fall.

If they grow out, planning on projecting the birds to see if vitality of the birds increase. Maybe try to find a different line next year. It's all a progress.

Limited on space so I will be focusing on only on BBR/SDW/GDW Araucana, BBS Ameraucana and Black/Blue Copper Marans. Will have to cull later this Fall and keep only the best SOP birds.
