Araucana thread anyone?

Just please, please don't tell me that you keep ending up with blues when all you want is whites. Seriously though, white's nice, just not what I'm passionate about but it's all that I seem to get. I'm glad there are those of you out there breeding them though - they are lovely.

I was dissing on whites. Sorry Cindy. My whites never stay white. They love the dirt or the mud or the horse poop. UGH! I have a friend who has a georgous white silky. At least I assume she is georgous. He gives her a bath before people come over but the second he lets her down she rolls in the most disgusting thing she can find. I went over one day and asked where she was. He was excited because he had checked the yard and their was nothing she could roll in. He forgot to check behind a plant in the flower bed. She found fresh watered dirt and was sooo filthy. She gave him the dirtiest look in more ways then one.

My favorite color is pink. My second favorite is black. I have black arabians, black labs, all our trucks are black fords ( 5 of them ). Most of my clothes are black, and yet I only have 1 black araucana. HMMM! Now when I can get a pink araucana, that would be something.

Cindy I got the photo of Rob holding the bantams. Very cute. I printed out most of my book today to get an idea of the size of each page and how it will look. It looks so amazing. Way better than I expected. I probably need to use less pics on each page, but at the moment I am happy with it. I am waiting for a few more people to give me their ok on using their photos and info. Then it is off to the publishers.

HMMM! Nope. I might have fallen for it if you didn't tell me you would dye them. Should have just sent them to me pink.

You should do the breed booth at Monroe and have them for sale in a cage at the booth. Kill two birds (ahem!! I mean two items). Anyway you would be able to show people how pretty they are up close and then sell them, all the while promoting the breed.

That would be a great idea, it's one thing to look at pretty pictures in a book, but another completely to see it in person! Well that is assuming they are personable roos haha. They always remind me of quail for whatever reason haha. I think that uniqueness is what drew me to them over americanas.

Lanae,

I don't know if you've done this with your photographs in your book, but I think it would be neat if you have some pictures of chick down colors of some of the birds as chicks just hatched and then pictures of them as adults. It's so hard finding good chick down pictures to have an idea of what the adult bird may look like. I just think it would help others.

Seeing all the photos everyone has posted recently really makes me wish I had more room, I would love to have a small flock of Araucanas. I think I need to look into a landshare... living in the city limits is really cramping my chicken hoarding...

Victoria,

That is a great idea. I would be happy to do it but will need people to send me pics of the chick and then the adult version. I can dedicate a couple of pages to it for side by side comparisons.

Send the photos to [email protected]. Please send un-resized photos. That way I can crop them myself and make them as big or small as I want.

Ah. How embarrassing. Dye versus die. The one is delicious, the other malicious. I still think it would be fun to dye them pink and blue. Maybe I will for the show just for fun....

Cannot wait for your book cashdl! I just wanted to post a pic of my only cockerel so far... I do not know if you can tell from a photo. Is he rumples with an extended tail follicle? These two feather just came out a short time ago. He is a wonderful roo no matter what and I can not wait to see what he produces.
