Araucana thread anyone?

Most of these are araucana eggs. I do get khaki and tan/green ones too. This is my beginning of the laying cycle photo, hatching eggs almost never look this good. By the time I can set up breeding pens once winter is gone they are much lighter.

Ha! I was just over on the Araucana thread commenting that I am so excited for a book full of pictures of your birds, Ann, and then I hop on over here and whalla, there they are! Great way to start off a Saturday; beautiful pictures of really cool Araucanas. Nice egg color! REALLY nice egg color.

Hello. It seems like it took me forever to read through this whole thread. I didn't want to post until I got through it all. It was a lot of fun reading. It was like reading a book. I could feel the lighthearted conversations and the frustrations you all feel. I felt like I was a part of the conversation as I read through. Really cool!

I am new to the thread and am very excited startng with a trio from Ann Charles of bantam BBR (actually had a quad but lost one) that I picked up last fall. I also tried hatching 10 of her standard fowl eggs ... with only one white (? leakage or splash), clean faced, tailed rooster. I need to get a decent camera to take pics.

I also hatched out 4 LF lavendar eggs from Hinc-JC Mtn. Poultry and need to post pictures to see what everyone thinks I have ... cockeral vs. pullets. Very excited as one is bilaterally tufted and a couple of rumpless.

I'm very, very excited to see what the spring/summer has in store for my new flock!

I'm also interested in knowing when your Araucana pullets typically start laying ... both bantams and LF.

Chris! You read through this entire thread!? Wow, now that's what I call obsession and obsession is a trait that we ALL appreciate here!

Welcome to our little Araucana discussion - I look forward to seeing those photos of your birds. Congratulations on hatching out shipped eggs by the way - I can feel nothing but great admiration for anyone who manages that with Araucana's.

There are so many of us here on this thread who have just begun or are about to begin with a long- sought after flock of Araucana birds - this season really is very exciting to look forward towards, from a personal stand point and from the much larger vantage point of this extended Araucana computer flock.

I got some Araucanas simply to play with, but they are all from a show breeder, but not all show quality, because I didn't want to pay the show price, but I still got some pretty little birds. I have a white hen, a buff hen 2 black hens all rumpless, but they aren't really showing tuft development, and I am afraid one of the blacks might have more of a beard than tuft, and then I have a show quality black breasted red male, that was a spare in his breeding program, but he had his full brother so he was available. I will try to post pictures... I know their quality already, but they are deffinatly cool to look at.

clacasse88, there's something wrong with your website link, and welcome to the thread!

CBC, I learned long ago that opening your mouth about a project, particularly when it involves cross breeding (or ruining a breed as some see it), can be dangerous for me. I'd be less worried if i was working on a new color of araucana haha

Ann, Those are really beautiful eggs, chocolate and blue. My last summer pullets are beginning to give me eggs of the same shade of blue. Now waiting on my EE's that are about one month older than the Araucana's to start. My pullets have also figured out what those nest boxes are for. At first I had to have a daily egg hunt to find eggs in the shavings on the floor. I also have four nice rumpless cleanfaced black pullets that have no leakage at all. If I put them with a splash roo will I get blue out of them?

Oh, yeah, I learned that lesson as well, and then decided to make a conscious effort to forget it. I'm very honest and forthcoming with anyone buying birds from me; I keep great notes on pedigree, and I take excellent care of my critters; I figure that those are the only actions of mine that other breeders have the right to be opinionated about - any other unsolicited critique is bothersome chatter that I tune out.
