Araucana thread anyone?

Thanks Lanae. Could it be Hot Pick? I know you can use that when they pick at each other, but I've only used it when they get bare backs & not really

I checked out your double tufted splash roo on SBE. He's beautiful. I love the girls behind him too : )

Also checked out your website for eggs: When do you start shipping eggs? How far out are you? I'm debating whether I should really try to take decent pictures & see what I have & what I could add to my flock OR hatch out chicks. I have the hatch bug right now

I think I've gone overboard with my olive egg project waiting for my araucanas to start laying. They need to start laying .... soon : )

Today was behind shaving day at the Cash Farm. The birds not mine. LOL!!! I swear some of those girls were definately bundled up for winter. Course I trimmed as I caught them. It was outside and the wind seemed to be blowing in my face no matter which way I turned. Their fluff is darned sticky stuff. They all had a breeze blowing up their patootie by the time I was done. Should have no fertility problems.

My silver duckwing hen sure gave me the stinkeye when I was done. Her roo was appreciative though. LOL!

I will look for the pine tar the next time I go to the grain store. Thanks.

BTW, I just checked your website & see that I could drive & pick up hatching eggs!!! We have relatives that live in Hinesburg that we are overdue in visiting. I'll have to make sure I start planning & coordinate your availability.

I am about 3 weeks out with shipping eggs right now. Course we will see who tomorrow brings. I am trying to set aside at leat 1 or two a day for myself so I can keep an eye on fertility and fill the orders of people who want chicks also.

Thank the good stars for that! We adore you, and I know we've all formed a bond here, but there is a limit to the personal information that I'm willing to comment on.

I can't believe that I never thought to use my styrofoam incubators as hatchers! That is brilliant and solves some problems I was puzzling my way through. So, Duh on my part, but thank you Lanae!

My parents are driving up for another visit in about a month and a half; I may be very interested in that other blue bird of yours if they are still willing to swing by your place for a pick up. They have a five month old Newfoundland puppy who will be making the trip with them this time, so they may not be up for adding hours to the trip, but I'll feel out the waters and let you know if I'll be hounding you for photos soon.

Megan,

The only blue I have is my double tufted blue roo. Is that the one you are talking about? He is on loan to a friend in Antioch which is much closer to the direction your parents will be taking. About 3 hours closer. If he is the one your talking about, I will have Sean take new photos and just leave him there. The tufted hen went to Sean and he has fallen in love permanently. Right now we have my tufted blue roo in with a tufted splash hen, a tufted blue hen, and two cleanfaced blue hens. We are hoping for lots of blue babies.

Life is always a chuckle here on the farm. I figure, you better off laughing than crying. Course if one more tufted chick dies, I am seriously going to have a crying jag. Fortunately the tufted black chick was still alive this evening, I mean none are dead, including the black chick. I am refusing to look directly at any of them. While looking out of the corner of my eye, I did notice a few more with tufts. Whooopeee!! I mean big deal.

Chris,

That's awesome that you can make a trip sometime. Hinesburg is further up the road from me so a stop at my place won't be a head ache for ya.
