Araucana thread anyone?

Lanae, Glad you are having success with your LG's, have been using them for years both as incubating and one without a turner for hatching. What kind of hygrometer do you use to regulate the humidity? Also I am thinking of installing a circulating fan as have heard it helps to boost the hatch rate by eliminating hot & cold spots. Does your LG's have these? Be sure to post some pics of your new chicks when they are up to it!

I'm not sure about LG, but i have the twins, hovabators. My boyfriend is going to install a computer fan into them for me to fix the hot and cold spots. hope to run a test batch then onto some shipped hatching eggs hehe

Ann,

What are the chances if I were to come up next week that you would have a dozen available? Kids have school vacation and thinking we could head up for a couple of days. Let me know if it's too soon for you & the girls?

Thanks,
Chris

Syble,

I have an LG. I've had temperature problems with mine from the word 'go' --- too much fluctuation. My husband installed a computer fan & I had much better results. Just watch the humidity as I found it needed more attention.

I just ditched my LG & now have 2 Hova Bators & love them : )

Where do you try to keep the humidity with your hatches? I thought I had read a lower than usual number.

I finally got some pics.

These are my BBR bantam trio (was a quad ... lost one) from Ann Charles. Pullets were supposed to be clean faced, but one ended up tufted : ) The cockeral is bilaterally tufted ... no good pictures though. He just started crowing this week.

I have 4 lavendar chicks that hatched from Hinc Mtn. One has full tail and cleaned faced. One has bilateral tufts with tail. One is clean faced & rumpless. I need to get better close ups of all of them individually as I'd like to figure out what you think they are. Hatched late December.

This is my one & only egg to hatch from Ann Charles. He is clean faced & tailed. He is not a clean white color. Hatched late December.

Sorry my coops need a good spring cleaning!!!

There is more than one person crazy enough to read through the entire thread! I can't get enough about learning about this breed, they are so awesome and unique. I hope to buy some non bantam araucana hatching eggs later in the year if I can!

I bought a digital temp and humidity gauge at wallmart for $7.00. My temp on my two LGs doesn't fluxuate at all. I have been really surprised. Also the humidity is so easy to keep where I want it.

I keep the temp at 99 and the humidity at 25%. The only time the humidity varies is during hatch and as each chick pops out the humidity gets a little higher.

I have only gone thru one hatch so we shall see how this weekend does.

Lanae

Wow ... 25%. What's your hatch rate? I thought it was standard around 50% and then jump to 60-70% during lockdown+.

You're lucky the temps. don't fluctuate
