Araucana thread anyone?

my boyfriend actually found it on a reptile forum, its also the cheap version. you just need a computer fan and a charger, his fan is 12 volt so i need a 6-12 volt charger. but both fans and chargers come in assorted sizes. apparently you just solder the wires together and your good to go. just make sure you put in a deflector plate on the fan as computer fans want to blow air down, which would probably dry the eggs, so the deflector will push the air out to all the sides. My parents have my camera, so i wont be able to take any photos, but when they are back i will grab it and hopefully take a finished product photo.

Have to dig them out now that the snow is melting and i can get to them!

It will probably be many years before i can afford my own sports man, where as i can build one this year, so in the mean time i'll make and use a home made one hehe. One day i'll have shiny things! a nice pair really, the incubator and hatcher side by side hehe

haha, dedicated is a much better word. Hopefully I may dedicate myself to the breed like you fine folks! At the moment, I am limited to ogling over your magnificent birds!

got the hova bators out and plugged in, so far so good, not on right temp just yet, but its a process haha. Once i'm sure they are switching on and off good without issues, i'll work on the fan installation. just have to figure out where to put it haha.

And, I had a hard time figuring out how to cover the fan so that chicks wouldn't be harmed by the blades. We finally just surrounded the thing with very fine wire and all went well. Perhaps your fan is better suited the bator than ours.
Good luck hatching chickies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

probably not haha, its a computer fan, so i will have to put a blocker plate on it to re direct the air flow to the sides instead of straight down, and the ends will need the hardware mesh too. where did you set your fan? I thought i could stick it in the center somehow or atleast near it but not looking like it.

Whats a good pice for 1 doz. cuckoo Araucana eggs ?

Had some one interested in hatcing eggs & had no idea what to ask on them, since ther aren't many around ?

They are from rupmless & tuffed parents.

needing some help,

WHAT'S A GOOD PRICE ???

No way, don't ask me about the fans. We seemed to get everything else to work out right but have never gotten the air flow to eliminate the hot spots without drying out the little babies in their shells too quickly. What is this blocker plate you're referencing? I want to get my husband's homemade incubator back out to use as a hatcher, but we really have to get this air flow issue dealt with before I'll feel OK about using it.

blocker plates just prevent the air from going straight down which is what the fan is designed to do. instead the airflow hits the plate and is forced sideways so it will go along the top and hot the walls and swirl around? in theory it will make the air around the edges mix and mingle with the rest of the air so no stale spots and cold spots. also because it doesn't blow right down on eggs hopefully it wont dry them out.... In theory...

You can use Google, but I'd suggest the BYC search in the upper right of these pages. Do a BYC search for "Aracuana hatching" eggs and scroll through the old auctions and Buy It Nows. Break down the price to a per egg cost. Now you have your range.

Rare varieties usually go for the upper prices, but you can tell your customer you are giving him a deal and charge the mid range price.

Hopefully others that have bought or sold Auracana eggs will answer, but you've got a starting point. I have a personal limit of $5 per egg for "regular" chickens. Most auctions and web pages I've checked out lately seem to run from $1.67 to $6 per egg. Double the egg price for day old chicks. Older chicks cost more (feed and time invested).
