Araucana thread anyone?

Wow, what a mishmash of genes! I can't wait to see how he matures, sounds like he'll be so handsome, even if he isn't really birchen. Thank you so much!

Stacy,

If he is from my eggs he is half silver duckwing and half brown red which is a crow wing variety. My avatar bird would be the dad. Brown red is the gold version of birchen, which is the silver version of brown red.

He will turn out to be completely stunning. I have several the same age and two of them are tufted.

He actually is really brown red ( crow wing ) so, gold hackle and saddle, birchen is silver saddle and hackle, and will probably look very much like my roo. A crow wing bred to a duckwing will only produce crow wing off spring. so he is crow wing.

Stacy,

If you have the newest SOP look on page 234 and 235 at the Modern Games. If you look closely at their wings you can see the obvious difference between a Birchen male and a silver duckwing male. Also the Black breasted red and the brown red. Pages 236 and 237 have OEGs in black breasted Red and Brown red so you can start to see the difference. When you look at the difference in hen color and study it you can start to identify what your pullets will be also.

Ok, the tufted rumpless chick is two weeks old so here is "her" picture (wishful thinking)

Nice chick. S/he's gonna be blue based with some duckwing.

Here's my Silver (or Golden) Duckwing chick, who's perfect in color (as in, no other genes but e+/e+) and not only is bilaterally tufted but also rumpless. First one too. What luck.

My first batch hatch is done; Got 3 chicks out of 5 eggs, the last two eggs seemed to have died weeks ago. One, the pictured one, is a definite keeper. The other two are still drying but obviously either have a lot of melanizer, some blue, and/or columbian in them. Can't fully tell yet who is tufted or clean faced, nor can I tell if anyone else is tailed yet.

My second batch is due to hatch in another week and a half.

Here's a picture of my blue araucana hen

And here's a picture of a Lavender araucana cockrel

Hope this helps. They are not very good pictures b/c I took quick pic's with my cell phone but, I think they are good enough to get an idea

I need to get you a better picture of her but, she hasn't changed much color wise but, is doubled tufted and rumpless. I just can't quite figure out her color but, I really like her

She's a Silver Duckwing. The mother to the pictured chick of mine was quite similar -

As a chick.
