Araucana thread anyone?

Here is a little blue chick that is clean faced and tailed. I am voting pullet just based on the way she acts and her posture.

Here is a tufted splash chick.

This guy is how I know my roo is tufted even though he does not show it. His mother is half LH and half BR and lays white eggs. The father is my blue araucana. They produced a tufted rumpless chick.

I had so hoped that my favorite Araucana rooster was just hiding his tufts and would pop out some tufted babies for me (but of course he didn't). How fun that you got the unexpected.

Hey, does anyone know of a Judge in Santa Cruz California named Terry Reed who raises black Araucana?

Totally LOVING everyone's pictures!

Oh, I finally sent in a membership application and $ to be a member of the Araucana Club of America. Very excited! I decided on USPS Newsletter delivery and whatnot, since I do like physical rather than PDF sometimes.

Josephine, with the extraordinary "hand painted" tufts? THAT Josephine!? Oh! Can't wait to see what these babies grow up to be. I do SO love the silver laced Tuft on that other one MY OH MY!!!

Yeah! I was so grateful for the information packet that came with my first newsletter - it has some of the basics of Araucana ownership and breeding concepts explained and it is still my first go to when I'm confused or need guidance. You're gonna love it!

Terry Reeder. I don't know him but have met him. He is a pill and I enjoyed every second of our conversation even though he was knocking my bird because he was a birchen color. He said he couldn't understand why people wanted any color other than blacks and whites. All other colors were too hard to get correct. I have to agree on the difficulty, but to me that is part of the fun. He seemed very nice while he was picking on me and my bird. I met him, Steve Waters and Karen Liguori at the Stockton show last winter. I look forward to seeing them again this year.

So over the weekend, I lost two Araucana chicks, one that didn't look good straight out of the egg and another that was just so small.

But the others are doing well, there are two or three with tufts...it is hard to tell and hard to tell them apart. Most are black with dark legs although there is one that may be lavender, I have to look up what a lav chick looks like because his color was so hard to get with my iPhone camera...And one of the black ones has some yellow highlights over his eyes and on his belly and he is pretty cool looking and has tufts!

Here is the "lav" chick. He does not have tufts that I can see and he is yellow on his belly but a silvery color on his back

Here is the black with yellow highlights, he has tufts and one is larger than the other

And these are some fairly indistinguishable black chicks...I think there are just two that I took pictures of, one with and one without tufts but I cant tell them apart...

That's one of the cutest chick pictures I've seen. The tilt of the head and the look in the eye is precious.

Seems to be a lot of chicks hatching out with tufts lately. Doesn't get better than that!

Interesting info, Lanae, with regards to Terry Reeder. Should I be afraid? I'd like to inquire if he has any large fowl black for sale, while my husband is down in that area and could potentially buy and bring something home. But I've been told that maybe he only breeds bantams? Gary Ramey e-mailed to say he knows Terry, so maybe he has the answer to that question as well.
Gosh, i think I would get AWFULLY tired of just black and white birds, but I guess if you're a perfectionist in life, there really is a lot of pain involved in trying to perfect a pattern.

My bantam black Araucana won Champion AOCCL at the Poultry Expo.
