Araucana thread anyone?

hes too young for me to pick out much at this point, lol. yay no bleed through yet though. Now you need to get him some girls!

here are some photos of mine to be critiqued also. I see some paleness on their earlobes, they're not white, but they're not red either... is that a DQ or a fault in that degree?

They look really nice to me. JMO.
Well, I hope that all 6 eggs that are due today or tomorrow will hatch, and be all pullets.

Hey, I see that you are from Michigan too!

Did you know that there is a thread on Michigan?

Syble,

I like the head on the black chick. Nice beak length. I am seeing more and more vulture like faces on the araucana, so its nice to see such a good looking one.

Farmerboy16,

You have good color and nice legs on your chick. Other than that it is too young to tell for sure.

Went out fed and checked for eggs this morning. I am happy to report all my 5 and 6 month old pullets are laying. I only have 5 at the moment and am only keeping two maybe 3 of those but its winter and I didn't expect them to start laying for a while. The pullets seem to have shamed two of my hens to lay also, which is great news.

I have seriously been slimming down my flock. I am down to :

Duckwing pen - Tufted Birchen split Duckwing roo with 1 tufted silver duckwing hen, 1 clean faced silver duckwing hen, 1 tufted golden duckwing pullet, and 1 cleanfaced golden duckwing pullet

Splash Pen - Sold the white roo so only have two tufted blue hens and 1 tufted splash hen. I may put a tufted black roo in there or a tufted blue roo if I keep him.

Dom. White pen - Tufted Dom white roo and cleanfaced black hen which I may move to the splash pen, cleanfaced blue hen, cleanfaced bbr hen.

I have a tufted wheaten hen in with a cleanfaced roo but she isn't laying now and Im not keeping the roo.

In my 3 month old pen I have 13 babies and all but 4 are tufted. I am only keeping a tufted silver pullet, tufted black roo, cleanfaced wheaten pullet and maybe a tufted birchen split duckwing pullet.

I have a 6 week old baby pen that has 16 babies in it. 3 are tufted and I am keeping the two wheaten pullets and a bbr pullet, plus a mottled roo.

I have sold quite a few birds locally lately which is nice. I have a lady that is coming monday to pick up possibly 6 pullets maybe 9.

I am delivering 3 tufted pullets in two weeks.

I am delivering 1 tufted roo and 1 cleanfaced pullet in two weeks.

I cannot wait untill spring when I can really get into the hatching spirit. My hatch rates have been crappy lately. Like 1 in 6 hatch. I have excellant fertility, just not hatching. I am thinking its the incubators, so wanting to buy a cabinet one.
I am looking at the GQF 1502, the Brinsea Ova Easy 190, and am seriously considering a incubator hatcher combo from customeincubators.com

They are all expensive with customeincubators being the most reasonable, but I would supply the auto turners which is fine because I have 3, but if I had to buy them it would raise the price closer to the other two. I am nervous about spending the money and want to make sure I get the right one.

I was so excited to order from customincubators.com. I never received my order or shipping confirmation. After 5 weeks I finally canceled my order and am awaiting refund from paypal. Just an FYI. I really was looking forward to it. The guy there kept making excuses for why he couldn't ship my bator.

Thanks for the info Shannon. There is another place that makes incubators and hatchers I am looking at also. They are $250.00 each and you supply the turners. I am waiting on additional photos.
