Araucana thread anyone?

Thank you for all the pictures, Carmel. I enjoyed seeing what the parent birds look like. It'll be great reference. I believe one of my resulting chicks has double tufts, rest clean faced. You've made an Araucana enthusiast out of me and now I want more!

Everyone else, thank you for your pictures too. Illia, I love your crested EE roo.

Here are the Araucana chicks. There is an extra chick, I believe the one in front, is an Ameraucana. The yellow chick standing up to the right is the one that was stuck in the shell and has the offset beak. The dark one in front of it has double tufts.

I've been hatching and selling like crazy for the past four weeks - cross breed chicks for $1.50/chick. It's been such fun to see what shows up in the chicks, but until this last hatch I was really worried about my Araucana fertility because I wasn't getting any Araucana traits out of the chicks who hatched, and I have had between 76 and 52 hatch each week. So.... I was delighted when I found two double tufted, rumples babies and two rumples clean faced babies this week!! Someone got a crazy good deal on these birds, but she's so excited so I'm happy for her. I was boxing up the last remaining 6 chicks when I realized that one I had thought was Marans because of it's single comb and feathered legs was also totally rumples!! How cool is that? Man do I wish I had noticed that one before I sold it - I have never heard of such a combination and would really have liked to have grown it up to see what it turned into.

Fingers crossed for this weekend's first pure breed hatch. I have about 30 Araucana eggs in there (can't remember exactly how many) and really, really want them to hatch!!!

Happy hatching everyone

Gorgeous! Love the tufts on that blue baby - they look nice and full.

My georgous double tufted silvery chick is apparantly a recessive white. Yeah! a color I don't plan on working with. LOL!

On a super happy note, my local TSC now carries Farmers Helper chick and chicken supplement. Thank You Kermit Blackwood (AKA Resolution). I spent a ton of money today and just about bought them out, but I have been waiting forever for it.

Illia,
I think I would call that pretty boy Crowned, not crested ....He's gorgeouso
Make one of those exactly like him, color and all, and add rumpless and tufts. He's just the coolest

Nivtup, best wishes to you and everyone else hatching!

Cathy, I am thinking a roo chick because he is so big and robust. We will see how he turns out. He may be something you have to have.
