Araucana thread anyone?

Quote:
Yes, EXCEPT that sometimes birds with the tufting gene don't show any VISIBLE tufts. The tufts may be very very small, and some folks even say that tufts may occasional grow internally (I dunno if this is true).

Flyingmonkeypoop talks about his araucana cross with the pure black eyes that look "alien," which is so interesting to read, because the two blue hens that I have have the darkest eyes I have ever seen on a chicken, there is no distinction between the iris and the pupil.... just all black. Like he said, looks kind of alien. Is this common for the breed? Desired, not desire?

Not desired. The eyes should be reddish.

oh, and what does ETA stand for?

I'm amazed at the size of this bantam Araucana's egg. Here it is next to a brown egg from my standard sized sex-link. Granted, the sex-link is laying smaller than she does in the middle of the summer, but still.......

Hi Josh44. I don't mind you asking at all. I started this thread with the story if you want to go to the first pace of this thread..... I'm in Montana where there simply are not many Araucanas and I think that the only way I will get anymore is to buy fertile hatching eggs from someone. I have been asking for show quality eggs from Blue Araucanas, but so far no one has responded to say they will sell me any. On e-bay, however, there are a couple of fertile egg sellers who's Araucanas look great, skyblueegg especially. Good luck!
