Araucana thread anyone?

A few more pics. This is a clean faced, rumpless hen (I think). Its color is more grayish then the other blue ones. It was actually dark outside and I'm trying to take pics in a stall with the flash. This girl was camera shy and it took a lot to just get this pic.

The latest blue chicks. I think I have a hen and a roo. I'm having problems with the little hen having a poopy butt all the time.

This little boy's tufts are more like bangles.

Our little girls are more delicate.

Here is one of the chicks that you thought would be like your brown one. I have two that are pretty much identical. I think both are hens.

Both of those two are silver duckwing hens! I am certain of it, though Lanae or someone else with better eyes can determine that. If they are silver duckwing, then that is an SOP showable color (just like black). Here is an example from skyblueegg of a silver duckwing, from this page, near the bottom.

The two blue chicks look great! The girl looks very nice, despite her pasty bum issues. Hopefully it clears up soon!

Great looking birds guys! Everyone seams to be coming right along this year. I Can't wait to have a couple blues like lauras next year I hope lol. I have 2 particularly nice clean faced fully rumpless pullets coming up this year I think lol.

The blue I pictured earlier, and a plump curvy black. Pins and needles for their first eggs haha.
what do you guys think?

What are people's thoughts on Colloncas? Are they really a separate breed or simply a clean-faced rumpless Araucana?

The collonca is a chilean term, and when I have spoken to Chilean breeders, they consider the collonca a descriptive term to describe a cleanfaced and rumpless blue egg laying bird. A collonca de Aretes is their descriptive term for rumpless, tufted and blue egg laying. A ketro is a tailed and tufted bird that lays a blue egg. They are not talking about seperate breeds they are talking about seperate phenotypes. The collonca, ketro, and collonca de aretes are not standardized in south america. You will get alot of plumage color variation, comb types, and body shape types within those phenotypes.

I think that saying your selling colloncas as if it was a seperate breed instead of phenotype is fairly misleading. In reality, all araucana breeders have the collonca phenotype within our flocks. But if you can make money off selling to people who don't know the difference, I guess why not. I know several have said that their birds come directly from chile. So what. It does not make them a different breed. Birds are judged by phenotype or looks, not genotype or genetics. I have two chilean breeders who want birds from me. I would like to trade birds with them also, to diversify my gene pool.

Just my two cents as a person who has been breeding and showing Tufted Rumpless Araucana for over 7 years now. But others have different thoughts and opinions. Thats what makes the world go around.

Now my understanding is Colloncas is where the Araucana came from. An Aruacana from Chile. They are not standard colors. I have three growing up and they are gorgeous. I plan on using them with my tufted Araucana girls.
