Araucana thread anyone?

I decided not to order any silver duckwing eggs. The lady I bought Cholo from hatched out a GORGEOUS clean faced silver duckwing pullet last summer from Macopin Farms. Her cock is Cholo's brother (looks a lot like him but clean faced and a bigger comb). The pullet is setting on 6 of her eggs so hopefully I can buy an extra pullet for Cholo if one hatches.

My daughter called me from the bus this morning. She forgot to lock up the chickens last night, she says. And they're loose. They ran away from the road from the bus. I never let the chickens loose when we're not home to keep an eye on them. Partially to protect them from predators, and partially so they don't wander too far and upset my neighbors. She called expecting me to go lock them up, even though I'm clocked in at work. I can't leave and drive the 20mi home to lock up the chickens! That's your job!!! UGH!!! :barnie

Oh no! :barnie

I decided NOT to put eggs under my SS. She's too flighty about being broody. She thinks she wants to be broody, but won't sit still long enough to do anything about it. If I call the girls for treats, she comes running from the nest boxes.

good decision. I had 2 silkies abandon eggs after a week. they preferred treats to sitting.

The Araucanas and the main flock were starting to get along okay together so I locked them all up in the main coop together. It didn’t go so well. Looloo started up with Jane and they really went at it so I broke that fight up. As soon as I stepped away they went right back to fighting so I broke them up again and they stopped. A few minutes later they started fighting again and Jane was bleeding so I put the Araucanas back in the small coop. Jane was really pissed that Looloo wouldn’t back off.

 Wow! Is Jane the game hen?
Sorry to hear that. I'm surprised Looloo did that!
