Araucana thread anyone?

I know she changed her email server a while back, I just wanted to make sure I was still on the email list. I haven't received anything from her since she changed her emailing, it's been a couple weeks.

I emailed her, and got a response. This week she only has a blue, and possible mottled blue. I think I'll ask what she thinks they will be next week. She says they're straight run though, as they are only 3 weeks old.

Yesterday was day 14 for my aracauna roo/various hens eggs in the bator. I originally set 9, 5 never developed, 4 were going at day 7 and those same 4 seem to still be going.

Lockdown is 3 days from today, and I have a question. I have a friend across town that has a broody hen. I've been telling her all along she could put some of our bator eggs under her hen and we'd take them back after their hatch, but she's declined. NOW she's changed her mind and is willing to let her broody hatch for us.

Here's my question: Is day 15 eggs too late to trek the eggs across town and put them under a broody? I'm leaning towards 'yes, it's too late' and I fear the little pre-chicks would get too jostled driving on the bumpy roads.

I'd say probably yes. Having not had a successful hatch yet myself, I'm hardly the authority, but its late in the game.

Personally I think they would be okay if you are careful. I've watched hens go in and out of a nest stepping on them, move them around, even had a few kicked out when mother hen was off the nest and another hen got in there to lay. I would get a large bowl with a towel at the bottom, lay the eggs in there and push the towel between any gaps where the eggs aren't touching and wrap them securely. That would also hold in heat. The more I hatch, incubate, and watch hens set the more I am surprised at how much abuse eggs can take.

I would be worried that the broody hen wouldn’t be setting long enough to have her hormones at a level where she would be accepting of the chicks hatching.

Also, I've done the opposite...took eggs 4 days before they were due to hatch and put them in the incubator (hen quit setting when she saw another hen's chick and she chick-napped it) with success. I put them immediately into lockdown (which was a day sooner than they should have been) and they hatched just fine.

That is a good point...I would find out how long she has been broody.

OMG you guys... RATCHET HAS A BABY!!! A MOTTLED BABY!!!!!
None of those eggs were supposed to hatch. I candled on day 8, and they all looked clear. Since I did this blindly at night, I'm beginning to think I missed an egg. Four eggs were the CF blue hen's amd 2 from Mama. I left them under her so she could raise the incubator batch due Saturday.
I came home from work, decided to put a fan on her because it's hot, and when I opened her coop door this little yellow and black chick was standing there!
I'll try to get some pics.
