The new chick is not tufted.
Talk about crappy beginner's luck. Only one of the 12 chicks I have hatched this year is tufted. At least one parent of all the chicks were tufted.

That sucks. I really thought the chick was tufted.
Well if the mottling is good and it’s a pullet you can breed it back to Manolito to get tufts.

I'm confident the tufted chick is a cockerel. Unfortunately he has Manolito's comb. He's not quite 4 weeks old and already has 3 rows of peas!

If he has good type and coloring then breed him to a hen with a tight pea comb to clean his up.

I thought that would work breeding him back to Mama but it didn't on this chick. Mama has a pretty small comb.

I’m sure some of the future chicks from Manolito and Mama will have tighter combs.

The first year is probably the hardest Trish. You did have a couple of major set backs unfortunately.

Which chick/s did you help hatch? Also which chick is from Bluebell?

Ratchet had her chick out of the coop when I got home this evening. I wish I could have seen how that tiny little fluffy golf ball got up and down the ramp! He/she is so stinkin' cute!
