Araucana thread anyone?

Well, correction... I have SEVEN chicks, not six. Wth??
Yesterday I thought I saw 4 mottled chicks, but that was only once, so I thought I had originally mistaken the splash for a mottled. But I was just looking at them and saw the 4 mottled together and the splash. I don't know what the heck happened. I know I started out with 9 eggs, 2 were kicked out at week 2, leaving 7. Two eggs in her nest didn't hatch, meaning she hatched 5, and I gave her one out of the incubator. :idunno Getting old sucks! I think I need eye glasses, a remedial class in mathematics, and a big bottle of ginko biloba!

It’s possible that there was a double yolk that hatched. A few years ago a robin laid 4 eggs in a nest on our porch and 5 chicks hatched. One chick from the double yolk egg was tiny and didn’t make it.

Wow!
All 4 of the mottleds are big and healthy. None of the eggs looked overly large. Now that this happened I am starting to question the splash chick that came out of the BBR egg in Triton's group. But I had it logged as only 3 blue x blue eggs under that hen, and none of them hatched. There is also a distinctive look to both of those hen's eggs, so it's not like I could have marked them wrong. :idunno

My first order of business will be to buy a rooster or 5. :lau
They are the best!!! I enjoy the cocks and cockerels more than the hens! They are so funny, full of personality, have great manners (with both people and flock), are gentle, all while being extremely predator alert. You know, I have yet to hear about an aggressive Araucana male.

Sorry I missed this notification. I’m enamored by cockerels and cocks they are just so stunning with their flowing hackles, saddle feathers, and lush tails (in most breeds ;)). I absolutely love the crowing too.
When it’s quite in my town the noises I hear are hardly natural. Barely any birds chirping or bugs making noise. Don’t really hear leaves rustling in the wind. It’s just the roar of planes passing overhead, the train making its rounds, and cars driving, & darn dogs barking! :rant
I really dislike dogs. I can’t stand them! They’re loud, needy, and I have to walk my sister’s dog when she’s not home.
I don’t understand why people love dogs so much. To me they’re a nuisance. They don’t cost a whole lot to take care of, but if something goes wrong the vet bills are large.

I agree 100%! I thought I was the only person in the world that didn't like dogs!

Ugh, that's awful! I was born and raised in the country. At 21 years old I moved to St. Louis to finish undergrad and then attend grad school. I cried the first 6 months I was there, I hated it that much. I spent 5 years there and NEVER got used to city life.
