Araucana thread anyone?

what happened?
I have two pullets that constantly have pasty butts. Also I read some can’t breed because their backs get too short after a few generations.
Her are some of the photos I took today of my youngest Araucana.

that's why we must always choose only good birds to breed. 1 male + 1 female is not enough. unfortunately many people do it that way. that's why we have tailed araucanas, health issues, short backs, yellow feet, etc.

All of my Araucana with issues came from Ann Charles. I will be breeding them with tailed birds, which I have enough of, thanks to the same breeder, unless I give up in disgust, which is also likely. I just started with Araucana this summer and the investment was for good foundation stock. I haven't bred anything yet.

nobody sells good birds. choose wisely and try to single mate good pairs.

it is possible that 2 rumpless birds hatch some tailed birds. it is called atavistic return.

don't give up. make sure to keep good breeders.

How's everyone? Still getting eggs?

(Blue Copper Marans, Barred OE, my DT gal and ISA Brown).

I'm hoping fertility for my rooster will improve. I've cracked some of the blue Araucana eggs and I don't see the rings. I had an infertile Araucana rooster last year. I hope my current Araucana rooster is not the same! He mounts the gals daily.

I gave away my Edd Sheppard trio a few months back. Just found out that the trio was killed by a predator. Really bummed out be because he was DR and a really good rooster with great fertility.

I've been on a roller coaster lately.... Sorry to hear about the predator. Such a loss.

My Silverudd's Blue/Isbar are laying strongly. Older Cream Legbars are going into molt but the younger ones are still going strong- with lower fertility. The Cinnamon Queens haven't stopped laying either but Welsummers have stopped. They all pick back up in January.

I have 7 Araucana cockerels that will be working for me by March - most of them with my Lavender Orpingtons.
