Araucana thread anyone?

I did a small search on line at one point and the only thing I found in relation was that there is a school of thought out there that the shape of the egg indicated the gender and to only set the round ones (as opposed to the oval ones) for girls (I may have that backwards, now that I'm thinking about it too hard). But I found that the hens who's eggs I wanted to set were all pretty consistent in the shapes that the individual birds layed, so I didn't have a choice of shape, Of course, they were nearly all boys that hatched, so I guess it could be that that consistency in shape was because they were all MALE!

I had read that also about the shape of the egg. Someone else said somewhere that they got more boys in the fall than they did in the spring. Who knows.

The shape of the egg has nothing to do with gender - That's an old myth. Otherwise, ALL my Araucanas would be females, ALL my Polish would be males.

I know one breeder who got more pullets with one of their cockerals. I am going to take notes next year as to what I get out of each hen and roo. I am sure better note keeping will answer alot of my questions.

oh noooooooo I started pulling the eggs to disinfect bator for next lock down and one egg started peeping and has tiny pip. Closed it up real quick. Of the eggs I took out 2 pips dead, 2 undeveloped, 1 early death. More to come lol. So far 3 have hatched out

I'm glad you're getting some chicks out of the hatch; there is nothing so maddening as slaving over that incubator for three weeks, waiting and hoping, only to get ...... nothing

same one as all the other good hatches over the past couple of weeks. I am just dealing with major temp swings due to the influx of very cold weather down here. We are going to get into the mid 20's in the next couple of days which is rare for us and even rarer this time of the year. Usually mid Jan to Feb if we get those kinds of lows

So I am starting to get eggs out of this summers pullets. Yah! I am especially happy to see that they have better color egg that their moms eggs do. These pullets hatched out of khaki colored eggs and their dad hatched out of a blue egg so I was hoping to see some improvement and where the hens eggs don't register on the egg color chart the pullets appear to be laying about a c11. That is a huge improvement. I already have a roo that hatched out of my blue egg laying pen lined up for the pullets that hatched out of a really nice blue egg and by fall I should be able to see if there is any improvement in the next generation.
