That is so possibly true and sad at the same time. I've always wondered the same about our county fair. . . .

I would love to see pics of his wings. I havn't gotten any that look like that yet. Birchen ( really as Illia pointed out, its crow wing - where all of the wing is black except th Bow) should be black every where except the saddle ( gold, silver, or red) wing bow ( gold, silver, or red) hackle ( gold, silver, or red ) some lacing on upper breast ( gold, silver, or red) is normal, solid black on lower breast. My roo has too much lacing.

These are a few crow wing varieties.

Birchen - White or silver saddle, hackle, wing bow, everything else black

Brown Red- Red, Orange, or gold saddle, hackle, wing bow, everything else black

Lemon Blue - Lemon Yellow saddle, hackle, wing bow, everything else blue

Silver Blue - White or Silver saddle, hackle, wing bow, everything else blue

For those of you who have been in this along time, a question about white earlobes. I read that in the past, they were exceptable but now are not. Did the white earlobes come from crossing in the andalusian for blue or maybe leghorns?? The reason I ask is that I have a silver duckwing roo exiled at my parents farm. He has a full tail, clean face and white earlobes (strike three.) If the white earlobes come from white egg layers in the past, is there a chance that the eggs would have no brown and thus be bluer? Do any of you have hens with white earlobes? If so, do they have nice colored eggs?
How hard are the white earlobes to breed out, back to red?

I haven't been in this for a long time, but, - Andalusian Blue is behind them, like any blue breed, however it is very, very, very far back - Before Araucanas were a "breed."

I had a couple with white earlobes, and no, they didn't lay any bluer of eggs. I don't know about breeding them out though, because all my white earlobed ones had too many other faults to keep.

The only entry last year at our fair was an "Americana" (Yes, the judge spelled it that way) that was actually an Easter Egger. There were no Araucanas at all, so I know I could enter my Scooter (even tho' he's half Ameraucana, and no true color standard) and win a ribbon. But I'm too worried about what would happen to him. Last year a severe storm collapsed the animal tent. No one was hurt, thankfully.

For those of you that show, do your chickens get stressed because they are away from their "family"? Mine get stressed when they look up from eating and can't find the others who have walked off. Which is always entertaining to watch, by the way.

ps- my Araucana/Ameraucana eggs are hatching! I am now officially back to the same number of chickens I had before the predator attack! I know, Lanae: don't count your chickens before autumn. LOL!
