Araucana thread anyone?

I was going to post a pic of him for you, but I have to run out right now. He is on my website, chicks and chickens for sale page, under the Easter Egger section if you're interested in looking.

Pullet

Pretty gal, pretty color, but, why so expensive? Yeah she's got nice tufts, a nice body, but her color is AOV and wouldn't work well in winning duckwing breedings.

She is very pretty though!

Did you all hear me screaming from hear. I went out to do one last walk around the pens like I do every night. If I don't I wake up worrying over the dumbest things. Anyway, my duckwing roo was dead. Can you believe it. I just stood there and stared. At first I thought it was one of the girls which would be even more of a tragedy. But he looks like he had a heart attack and fell off the perch. Idiot!

I swear if it isn't one thing its another.

On another weird note. Last spring I bought hatching eggs from a couple of different places and only kept 1 or 2 of the chicks. I sold most of the others to a lady the next town over. She called me and asked if I wanted to take the ones that were still alive back. A predator was preying on the flock and got everything except a hen, a roo, and their 7 babies. So I go to pick them up this evening. I havn't seen these birds since they were two weeks old. The hen is an adorable almost white splash. The roo is totally weird. He has a huge straight comb and large waddles. He has 1 large cotton ball tuft. He is sorta tailed. But the weirdest is he has 3 long flowing to the ground saddle feathers like a yokahama but not quite as long. They definately touch the ground. The lady is going to email me a pic from when he was a baby. I am hoping it will jog my memory as to whose hatching eggs I bought.

Once he gets settled in I will take pics to show you all. Oh and joy of joys, of the babies (7) it looks like there is only 1 pullet and most of the boys appear to have a straight comb. The pullet has a pea comb and the hen has a pea comb. Very interesting. The roo is white and all the babies appear to be either white or almost white splash's.

My first chick out of my duckwing pen is hatching right now. It has almost zipped all the way around. I am so excited.

Since my roo died yesterday, I have been kicking around what to do. I have a nice black birchen roo with a nice black chest I will probably move to that pen. All the birchen last year that hatched except for him had lots of lacing on the breast. He is double tufted so that is good.

I do have another tufted duckwing roo but the color is not right. He is all red and white with almost no black. I think that might be the wrong direction to go in. Maybe I will try both.

Oh and I got outbid on the duckwing pullet but thats ok, because I have a super nice double tufted pullet that is 4 weeks old already, and looks to be very correct although tiny. So onward and upward.

i feel like her birds are always too expensive - - she literally sells birds with wrong leg colors, blah blah blah for a lot of money. that said, she wouldn't if she couldn't. people buy her leftovers for crazy prices.
