Wow I guess I got "told" from someone who knows Araucanas. Hmmmmm am I going crazy?
Hello Shannon,
The "true auruacanas" lay all different colored eggs. I raised them in the 70's. It's the "Americauna" that lay only blue eggs. They're a hybrid from the Brazil bird, and their larger too, with larger eggs. I can get some chicks of those, but I'm looking for the earlier birds. The feathering of the smaller bird is different on each bird too (not banties size at all - more leghorn size.) I've heard that the feathering is only side whiskers on the Brazilian bird - no. My birds had whiskers, leggings, toppings, all different colors, etc. - they weren't alike at all. Each bird was different. They also only had medium eggs. So the new birds are better "producers" and the new "Brazilian" birds would "show" better - I guess it's been forty years - what was I thinking? Well, maybe someone will find me with those birds.
Thank you. I will probably get some of those chicks from a friend. Good luck with yours.
