I have 2 araucana's that are 9 1/2 months old. Their egg color is a very light brown. I am disappointed because I bought day old eggs from Mt healthy hatchery for the purpose of getting colored eggs.

Has anyone ever had this happen before when they purchased Araucana's?

They are not muts, they are sold as true araucanas not americanas.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I hate to tell you but almost always hatchery araucanas are EEs, so it is just their genetics.

I guess I need to find someone who has a hen that is already proven to lay colored eggs and perhaps get some hatching eggs from them?

Would that be a good idea??

Looking at Mt.Healthy's site, they definitely aren't Araucanas, they are EEs. I have one EE and she lays a dark cream colored egg. I was dissapointed also, so I am getting a couple more EEs to try and get some green eggs.

Why would you get more EE's? Perhaps they would not have colored eggs again? What can you do to ensure you can get the colored eggs that everyone talks about?

It is also stated that Araucana's are suppose to be healthier eggs as well?

I wonder if that is true?

I got my EEers from Murray McMurray and they all lay beautiful green eggs. Not a brown or cream in the bunch.
