(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We picked up our first batch of day-old chicks on Wednesday, April 15th. Tax day! I grew up in an agricultural area and also always heard stories growing up about Granny get locked in the chicken coop, Archibald the rooster and his sharp spurs, etc. I feel like I am destined to raise chickens!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Four chicks! Three more coming in the mail on 4/20. No word yet on if we will name one Mary Jane.

(3) What breeds do you have? Buff Brahma (Irina), Golden Cuckoo Marin (Daphne), Hamburg (Cici) and local hybrid (Lady). The three coming in a few days are: Heritage Barred Rock, White Cochin and Blue/Black Splash Orpington.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Daily connection with nature, closer connection to our food sources (eggs), providing a great life to some super-fun chickens.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Hiking, swimming, reading, drawing, playing music.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We have two kiddos (elementary and pre-k). We have two dogs (year-old mutts). We have a blue-bellied Western Fence Lizard who begrudgingly shares his crickets with our chicks. My job is officially "Cog in the Grinding Corporate Wheels of Corporate America."

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I've been stalking BYC for the past three months prior to picking up our chicks. I finally joined for the forums! And yes, the community is awesome :)
