Hello. We hatched 7 chicks from a barnyard mix of White Leghorn, Rhode Island, and Silver Laced Wyandotte. The rooster was Wyandotte.
I am fairly certain I have 4 or 5 roosters. 2 for sure are already loud, but i think 3 or 4 have the iridescent green tail feathers.
However Im wondering about thesolid white, and the white/brown mix. Could they possibly be hens? Still fairly long tail feathers.
I tried to get some pics but looking for opinions.
Thanks

The sheen on a bird's feathers does not indicate their sex, and it wouldn't make sense if it did anyway. The reason a chicken's tail, if a dark color, will have a sheen is because of the sunlight's reflection on the dark surface. The bird can not control how sunlight reflects on their feathers, so sexing chickens by sheen is not an option. All chickens, no matter their gender, have a sheen on their feathers somewhere.
