My ten Buff Orpingtons are a little over 9 weeks old. Most of them look very much like pullets. I can't tell with this one. He/she is the undisputed head of the flock so far. Since 4 weeks old, it checks to make sure everyone's in the coop when the lights go out, and watches over the others. It's personality says roo. Please tell me it's a boy. I ordered females, but was really hoping for one boy. I just don't know. Any thoughts?

Looks like a girl

there are tons of free roosters this year unless you specifically wanted a B.O. rooster

Thanks. Once I'm sure I don't have any males, I'll pick one up. I've seen many on Craigslist and our county Facebook group for livestock. I'd lean towards a Buff Orpington, but will take any rooster that's friendly with humans. I was just hoping I had one because we handled them so much from the jump, I figured it would
grow up a little friendlier.

If I need to look, are there any breeds that are a little more docile, besides Orpingtons?

I don’t own any Buff Orpingtons so I don’t know how friendly they are but I do know my White Leghorn is the friendliest of all my roosters.

I hear RIR roosters tend to be not friendly, so try to avoid those.

Supposedly Australorps are friendly but I had one once and that rooster was a meanie!

I’m sure there are others out there, but for sure I have experience with White Leghorns and I love that rooster, never even once has he charged at me or shown any sign of aggression whatsoever.
