Are chicken hybrids real

As I understand it those crosses are possible, but the offspring seldom survive and are usually infertile (think mule).

Once you get past the first generation both survival and fertility increase.
 
I saw what I think was a quail-pigeon cross once. That thing looked weird. It was raised as a quail by a quail mother, but it flew well and its call wasn't quail at all. It's topknot was about half the size it should have been and as an adult the bird was bigger than a quail.
