Are chickens the new black?

I am on the coast in WA and it is the same thing. All of my friends have bought chicks and calling for help with them. Our local feed store had to double their orders and are getting them from locals hatching and Pivett(sp?)...its crazy out here!!!

NObody gettin' into chickens here~except me! Actually, even the commercial operations are going under on chickens.....could this have something to do with the fact that all you folks are growing your own chicken meats and eggs? I wonder......

If so.....way to go!!!

I'm checking the feed stores around here tomorrow to see if this has spread to the southwest.... I'll be in Mesa in the AM... maybe I should check the feed store there first.

I heard it was from the enonomy and people trying out the self-sufficency thing.....chickens are one thing you can have when you live "in town" I guess.

Don't know it spread to AZ....but it sure is crazy in Utah. Feed stores run out hours after getting orders in and local sellers are getting previously unheard of prices for chicks. Just about impossible to buy laying age hens. We have family in Or who say the situation is just as bad there. And they tried ordering online only to find they waited too long and they are on waiting lists until June!!

WOW.....shows you the sort of faith Americans have in the economy and / or the quality of store bought foods these days!!
