are dandelions safe (flower and leaf) safe for week old chicks.

i just think 'real' food that they would find when outside would be better for them to eat instead of process food.

any thoughts?

They still need their chick starter. Dandelion blossoms are great when battered and fried for human consumption. As far as chicks...throw a few in with them, they will peck and pick but I wouldn't make that their only choice of food intake.

kens adore dandelion leaves. We throw em all in there. I dont tend to give one week olds anything other than chick starter though. I wait until they're about a month old before giving them the assorted craps on which the grownup birds thrive.

why do you wait until a month old? just curious?

they would get green/bugs/worms if they were outside!

i am keeping them on chick starter..just thinking about giving them a bit of the green stuff.
