Are Ducks good Backyard Birds???-Or are they too loud/neighbors

Your 1/3 acre is pretty small.

Ducks need lots of space.

I have a friend who had three ducks in her back yard and they DESTROYED IT.

You have pekins that are not loud?? I can hear mine at the neighbors house across the road, a good 1/4 at least from where the ducks are!!

The cayuga ducks are not loud at all. If you just wanted some for pets, any drake duck would be good. Their call is no where near as loud as a duck's quack is. I have heard that muscovies do not quack at all, but I have also heard they are nasty, and they can fly very well. The calls can fly too, and they are pretty loud.

We have 2 pekins and I think they are loud. Our somewhat close-by neighbor says he has never heard them. However, when they get a quackin', they echo off of his machine shed and I wonder how good his hearing is! We have chickens too but no roosters. I was suprised how quiet the chickens are compared to the ducks. The ducks are great doorbells. They go nuts when someone comes over.

My dog does more damage to the yard than the ducks. They dont even have the whole 1/3 acre, maybe only 900-1000 sqf. And thats plenty for them. They keep the lawn short , i didnt mow once where they are . As long as they have enough food, water and their pot full of mud and whatnots they are happy with what they have .
the only thing they did destroy were my tomato and pepper plants.

I have three muscovies and a pekin... The Pekin makes enough noise for all four of them...

I would get rid of the Pekin, but my kids have called her Queeny and she does rule the barn....

Muscovies don't make any noise and are great.... I've not eaten any as of yet but I'm told they are wonderful....

Waterfowl are NOT a good choice for people in small areas. We have 8 ducks (6 Blue Swedish and 2 BS X Rouen crosses) and they get to roam on our 3 1/2 acres plus the neigbors house and a small pond on the vacant house next to theirs. They turn any area into a muddy mess when it rains, they poop A LOT and it makes a big mess, they must have 1 kidde pool per 2-3 ducks, they eat flowers and veggie plants, etc. All of the hens are super loud (except scovies, but they aren't attractive at all in my opinion) and they will wander whereever they want. Even the heavy breeds seem to be able to fly.

I have 4 ducks in a 3/4 acre fenced yard. I've got khaki campbells and blue swedish. The females are both quite loud. They haven't destroyed my yard. Well, not anymore than the chickens and dogs have!
