are ducks loud??

Noisy ducks is a NICE sound lol!! I am lucky cos my neighbours all agree. Thaaank goodness cos Doog stood under the bathroom window and WAKKKKED the whole time I took a shower this morning. I think she was mad that I was splooshin and she wasn't lol!!

We have Rouens and Mallards and they are LOUD! (Except the drake of course). But they are usually only loud when they see me coming out to them or I am leaving them. When they are just hanging out by themselves, they are normally very quiet, just an occasional WAAAAAAACK to remind me they are out there and are treats coming soon? Like now?

My friend works for Storey Publishing, and I am always looking for new books to beg / borrow / steal from her!

We have the chicken book, and I love it... I am certain the duck book would be awesome! Thanks!

Yeah, my neighbors freaked out when we got chickens... live in the suburbs on a one acre lot with horses down the street... they said they were worried we'd all get the bird flu and die!! Plus all the noise...

No eggs for them!!! But I don't want to get a nuisance citation, either... so just doing some research.

My ducks quack when they want to be let out - so when I walk out the back door in the morning and when I open the driveway gate when I get home after work. They are quite loud when they do it but no more so than a dog that barks a few times during the day. It is just one duck that is loud - she takes on the role of yelling out to me. If she didn't then probably another one would, as someone else has mentioned.

I was sitting in the backyard watching the ducks on the weekend and the neighbours were having a BBQ in their backyard with friends. My ducks quacked a bit when a bird flew over and next door's friends said "what's that noise?". They were told "Oh, it's just the neighbour's geese"

I sleep very close to my duck pen (it's just outside my bedroom) so I know how loud or quiet they are at night - they are pretty quiet. They chatter softly a bit now and then but nothing the neighbours could hear.

Overall I'd say that when they quack they are quite loud (but not as loud as my Labrador barking). I can hear the quacks 100 yards away but only audible, not loud at that distance. But the thing is that they don't really quack that often. They are Swedish ducks.

I think everyone is in agreement

They can be loud little buggers...and it depends on your setup. We live in the country on 10 acres and they are way down from the house and when they get going...I often think the neighbors might think they are still too loud. Again, not as loud as their barking dogs

My quietest are definately the cayuga. We don't have muscovies, but, have just about everything else. Even the mallards can be obnoxious when they want me to come out in the morning and let them out. They all have an open run on the front of their houses, but, are locked in their run/house at night to keep safe from the coyotes so you can hear them just as if they are outside. The Pekins are beyond obnoxious, but, of course, I love it. If you were to only get one, the drake would be the way to go because it is almost impossible for them to be "too loud", but, he would be lonely. I highly recommend you adding a couple to your flock...they are SO entertaining especially if you hand raise them. Good luck and enjoy
