Are Ducks louder than Chickens?

OMG! My neighbor 2 houses up has a rooster and I'm ready to kill it. ALL night long he crows! He crows during the day too but really picks up once it gets dark and only stops from 11pm-2am. I can hear him inside my house.

That neighbor also has 10 or so chickens and I rarely hear them. Everyone once in a while one will start clucking but it isn't bad at all. My 4 girls are atill pretty young but they have a constant chatter going while free ranging my back yard. When they are in my garage I can hear them if I stand out front. I don't think they are loud but only one of them is a loud talker. My boys would talk too but they weren't nearly as chatty. My chatter box is my white layer.

My neighbors didn't even know we had my male ducks till they were 5 months old. He saw them while hanging Christmas lights. They were pekins which are suppose to be pretty loud, maybe because they were boys no one noticed? Anyway... You will find out soon how loud they are.
Yes we will find out sooner or later. I can't wait! They come feb 23rd I have been waiting for months.

I only have one female duck at the allotment - I can hear her from around 100 yards away every time I approach (she starts as I open the gate to the allotment) where as the hens I can't hear until I get to my own allotment (about 20 yards away) unless a rooster is crowing

My ducks are also this way. They get pretty loud like this (I call it yelling), but it's only for a short period of time. They start when they see someone coming, and stop as soon as they get what they want (a lettuce treat, let out in the morning, or their pool filled). We're all still in the first year, so maybe they will tone down with age. They are indian runners, 6 girls 2 boys... boys are quiet and the noise they make is relaxing in my opinion.

Still, the girls are nothing compared to my neighbor's donkeys :)

Let us know who you decide to keep. There are so many breeds that it's hard to choose just a couple. I took this video this morning and this is a constant chatter I was talking about.
Well we know who we are keeping, the 2 sexed female golden 300s and 5 sexed female WH. But I have 8 random gender (golden's) to sell on CL (craigslist) I might keep one of the males, because I'm sure I will get a lot of males in the 8 random. If the sexed golden females don't look in the best health we will choose the best looking females. Because most people just want them for meat anyway, but if they look too sick then we will ask efowl.com for a new baby.

So you are going to get rid of your chickens then? The more ducks you have the louder they will be.

We might get rid of the chickens. They are ruining the garden by kicking it up and kicking grass into it. They already killed some of the plants

Would 5 hens(ducks) be really loud? And someone told me before drakes calm hens (ducks) down. Does that mean their temperament or they noise?

Well my ducks killed off my garden after I took down the fence so you need to fence it off. They also killed a few of my herbs I forgot to fence off. I don't know if males would make a female quiet or tamer. I think it could go either way and ducks are indiuvals so there is no way to say one way or another. I have only had males or females at a time not both.

You will definitely need to fence your garden off from the ducks. Our ducks have eaten EVERYTHING in our garden. Including the entire bottom section of an apricot tree - they just jump and grab the leaves off. We're in the process of redesigning the garden with separate areas fenced off from them. We naively thought if we had raised garden beds they'd be fine....but the ducks just hopped right up into them!

Lucky they are so cute ;)

Some breeds of ducks are louder than chickens but some breeds of chickens can be louder than ducks, Ducks (young and old) are known for their quacking while drakes are referred to a squeaking. Muscovies are not part of the mallard line and are considered a shell duck which I think is why they are so quiet. Calls are one of the most notorious for being loud along with many others that have been listed.
