No need to pay a fortune, all that is needed is a little effort and a bit of time.
In the following substitute Cuckoo Marans for Barred Rock, and Golden Salmon Marans,Wheaten Marans or even Black Copper Marans for the Brown Leghorn.

Greg Cole, here in Alabama has beautiful Golden Cuckoo Marans. He is a member here and sells birds a realistic prices. He may sell eggs.

PM gtcole here on BYC He mentioned it in the Where am I Where areYou Forum for Alabama on 11/17/09. Greg does not ship birds I don't think but he sells eggs. His are from an excellent line that has recently been imported from France I believe, they are beautiful birds I have seen them up close and personal. He is a very nice man as well.

Here's a couple of pics of mine. Please excuse the muddy mess of a tractor!

Roo:

The roo had more gold coloring as a youngster, and now the parts that were gold have lightened up quite a bit. Actually, now that I've posted this, on my computer screen I can hardly see any gold at all--but he does have a tinge of gold to those light silver parts, and a few darker smudges here and there. I'll be interested to see what he looks like after a molt. I think these guys are just around 5 months now, I would have to check my hatching notes to see exactly...but no one in this pen is laying yet. They do have leg feathering, but that is hard to see for the mud and bad pics.

Kathy, maybe next year you will just have to get some chicks!

Or test eggs for me or something. It will probably be a couple of years before I sell hatching eggs, I'll want to see how these turn out & what kind of birds I hatch from them. That and see what egg color is like.

Oh, I have this guy, too, who seems to be developing a bit of gold in his hackles, shoulders, & saddle feathers:

Again, it would be interesting to see how he turns out or if he throws golden chicks...but he'll be off to someone's freezer here shortly. I've got too many roos, as usual!

They're beautiful Maria! I was half joking about dibs on eggs - but OTOH, half NOT!! LOL!!! I'd love to test eggs or get some chicks whenever you're ready to let some go, so keep me in mind.

This might be a dumb question, because I don't know the genetics behind this type, but here goes: do you know if these goldens are coming from your newest roos with the newest hens, or are they from the newest roos over the hens you had previously? Or maybe the previous roos with the newest hens? Is there any way to tell?
