Layer feed can cause damage to nonlaying birds if used for a long period of time. You could feed flock raiser, all flock, or grower feed instead with a side of oyster shell for the hens.

Egg shells are primarily calcium carbonate and contain about 2 grams of calcium. Layer feed is 3.5 to 4+% calcium for birds actively laying.
Oyster shell is 95% calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is 40% elemental calcium.
