Are mealworms really safe for chicks and grown chickens?

Mealworms can eat a lizard from the inside out...will that also happen to chickens? I stopped myself from buying a litttle container of 100 large mealworms after hearing about that.

I purchased a starter kit of Mealworms and the colony is growing slowly but ever time I have fed to the chickens and they go nuts. 5 weeks of occasionally tasty meal worm treats and everyone seems happy and healthy. I feed the meal worms healthy whole grains and wheat bread. All is good so far.
