None of my birds have been showing signs of illness. I have never lost a chick, and I have had a 100% hatch rate until today.
Today I had 3 eggs quit on me, a quail who was perfectly fine this morning die around 5pm, and a chick just stared at me and died in my hands.
2 of the eggs were from the same hen as the chick was. The third egg was from a Pheasant at my neighbor's house. They all 3 were in seperate incubators so that's not the problem. The quail have their own pen with two Pigeons I also got from my neighbors. And the chick had never left the brooder. All of the eggs were fine yesterday, the chick had never shown signs until tonight, and the quail hadn't either. I suppose I could just be over reacting, which is a good possibility because after losing 5 life's today, im a bit hysterical, but I'm wondering if they have gotten something. My neighbors don't take good care of their birds.. I hate to say it but they have hundreds and they just feed them. They just have too many it's hard to know if all of them are okay. I understand that, I had 55 birds this morning, birds are addicting, but I'm wondering if they're sick and they got mine sick as well, and if they are I would like to get them treated as soon as possible before I lose any more.
The chick became real lethargic out of nowhere and snuggled up to me, cheeped, I picked him up, he stared at me and died right then. He was with 5 other chicks who are perfectly fine and I'm keeping a very close eye on. I don't know if there is any sickness or disease that could pass through eggs, but I'm just trying to be safe.
The quail did not show any signs of a bite or attack, he was in the dead center of the pen which has been predator proofed. If he would have gotten into something, which I doubt they could have, they would have all gotten into it.
Tomorrow the pen will be moved to a new place just to be safe, the chicks will have the brooder sanitized and I'm going to check all of the birds for anything off. All of the birds are still eating right and acting normal.
It's just odd to me that all of this happened in a few hours and I haven't had any deaths happen in nearly a year.
Thank you in advance, and if I am over thinking I apologise.

You're doing the right thing by sanitizing everything. There are several respiratory diseases that can be passed through eggs. However I dont see how infected chicks would survive to hatch. Perhaps it would depend on the strain but I'm not sure.
On the other hand it could simply be failure to thrive.
You can contact your local extension office and find out how to send off one of the chicks for necropsy if you wish. I'm sorry for your losses.

Thank you. I woke up to the two eggs in the hatcher dead. One began to unzip last night so I thought it would be okay and went to sleep. This morning he was in the same zip so I started to help him and he was dead. The other I candled and the air sack was floating all around the egg, the chick was not moving. I have 2 duck eggs in there now and 3 more chick eggs and the ducks look like only one will make it, the chicks all look fine for now.. I don't know why I lost 7 birds in less than 24 hours when I haven't lost one in nearly a year. It just confuses me.
