I purchased 6 Bantam Cochin hatching eggs for my broody. They are supposed to be Buff. 4 hatched. 1 looks buff. The other 3 had brownish spots on the head and in a line down the back at hatch. Not full stripes. They were mostly buff. Now their feathers are coming in with brownish patterns on the wings. I am thinking partridge. Parents are not partridge. Red roo over buff hen. Can you tell me what I am going to have here?

Willawong Hill they have turned out Buff with a gray or black color bleed around the rump and around the neck of the 1 cockerel. They are 9 or 10 weeks old now so they don't have their final adult feathers yet. The pullets have become more buff with each molt. They are buff on top and have some gray down feathers around the rump. So odd. One pullet and the cockerel have 1-2 darker tail feathers.
The person I bought the eggs from has since hatched 1 chick from the pair and it also came out the same. The parents don't display the bleed, but they sure are consistent in throwing offspring with it. The chicks or otherwise excellent little cochins. They run up to people and want to be loved.

Cochin Chicks are a breed of chicken that originated in China. They are known for their fluffy feathers, and come in many colors! These birds make great pets because they're easy to care for and can be kept indoors or outdoors. If you have any other questions about them, feel free to reach out!

So true. We hatched some Black Copper Marans eggs and 1 of the 4 came out brown. After spending some time on the forums it's apparently a common poor color pattern. But he made the most beautiful rooster because he had so much more color. Unfortunately his color pattern is when you're not supposed to breed.
