Are my chickens crazy or is it just me???

This monsoon has been amazing and although we needed the rain...the storms have been pretty intense. Tonight, I flew out of bed when all of patio furniture flew into my master bedroom patio doors. My first thought was the chickens. For some crazy reason they have been sleeping on top of the hen house. This freaks me out for two reasons; 1)predators and 2) weather. So, this time i'd had it and went out there and put them in their hen house. Uber excited to find two eggs (our first) but wondering why they are doing this. Anyone have any ideas? Do they not like their house?:/ the torrential downpour has been going on now for over an hour so I think I made the wise choice but have no idea.

Chickens like to purch off the ground, some higher than others. Does their house have a purch?

I have added new pullets twice to my flock. Both times, the new additions perched on top of the coop, especially before nightfall. I think they went up there when they were scared since it is higher than any of the perches. It is a safe place. I also had to place them each night into the coop...as they became more comfortable, they stopped. Every once and a while I'll find one up there that feels a bit threatened.
