Are my chicks defective?

I got them hooked on meal worms, so I introduce new foods by putting mealworms on them. So a couple spoonfuls of yogurt and 10 mealworms mixed in. Now they love yogurt too so I can mix other stuff in the yogurt to get them started. I'm trying to get them to eat slugs, so I made a yogurt, flaxseed, mealworm, slug combo. They gobbled it all up and left a pile of slugs at the bottom.

My 6-wk Chick-Chick will eat no treats. I don't know if that's good or bad!

At any rate, she eats snails and weed seeds so maybe she's just into natural.

New chicks have to be taught most things. Without a momma hen to teach them what to eat, where to forage, how and when to roost you have to be the momma hen and teach them. They don't know the new things you are offering is food. Teach them it is food. You can sprinkle a few of their starter crumbles over the top to encourage them to try new things. They will get the idea fairly quickly and will be quicker on the uptake each time you offer something new until they are eventually in a feeding frenzy when they see you with a dish.

I start giving my babies 12 grain bread after the first week and scrambled eggs with cheese... or just cheese they love it!!! last summer for my chickens i made them a fresh salad with cabbage, lettuce, diced roma tomatoes, and shredded cheddar cheese and ohhh man they could see that paper plate coming from a mile away and would come a running for it. Worms is a big hit too wax worms are good for little ones because they are small but regular worms i have to cut up.

I have been trying to get mine to "branch out" too, but it is hard. The first time I offered a small earthworm, my silver sebright chick screamed then pooped! I've still been trying but they run from the worms!

They like bread and going outside and mostly scratching and sunning themselves. I tried the yogurt, but they only ate the part that was attached to their starter. My kids also tried fig newtons, but that didn't go over well, either! LOL! I wish they'd start eating some bugs, but they are scared of them!

Oh well! I'll probably try mealworms when they get a little bigger.
