Are my chicks trying to kill themselves?

Hello....Did they start using the heat source?
It's never fun when we try our best for them and they refuse to use something....I bought my Dogs a fantastic Dog house....No way would they use it...It now is a Duck house and the Dogs sit outside without a care in the world..
I use a heat lamp and extra chain and zip ties to make sure it's not a fire hazard...
On and off so I think they are getting the hang of it finally! I still have to physically put some under it when they decide to fall asleep near the food... I totally get the dog issues lol my gsd won’t use his house- unless it starts raining when I’m feeding him (I feed raw so he’s gotta eat outside) lol I wouldn’t be worried about the lamp falling- I did the same thing- rig it so it can’t fall, but I had a bulb bust for no reason and sparked some wood chips.... never again!

Shatter proof bulbs are not safe either. The ones coated in Teflon or other PTFE-based products release fumes that are deadly to birds as they build up in a confined space. You probably can get away with it in a well-ventilated space but folks who close up their coop have killed their entire flock this way. Why take that risk?

There are other brand names for the PTFE coatings which I why I said "or other PTFE-based products". Mylon is another, for example. Some manufacturers have added warnings to their label although there is no legal requirement to do so.

It isn't my opinion that these bulbs can kill birds with the chemicals they release when hot, it's a documented fact. I'm glad that it hasn't been an issue for you but I felt it important to mention the danger posed by these bulbs when I saw them recommended.
