Are my ducks the only ones that do this?

Last summer I found that a great treat was some ice cubes.
They run around chopping on them until they completely melt.

I am going to put ice cubes in their pool this summer and let them have that treat. At least I would hope that would feel good. We have well water so it really is already cold but ice cubes are just fun.

I wonder if I put a bit of food coloring in the cubes before they freeze if it would be more fun to them. Colored ice cubes floating in the pool......I may join them with my floppy hat, swimsuit and an exotic drink with umbrella in it!

hattiegun! you gave me a great idea! Mine will only dabble for floating food...if it sinks, they want nothing to do with it unless I put it in the short litter pan I have for a "sponge bath" of sorts. Long story.

Anyway, I think I will start to freeze stuff so it floats....they will dabble that! LOL. I love it!

I just took a quick peek out the window and saw my indian runners eating ice chunks that I just busted out of their bowls when I gave them their fresh water a half hour ago! Crazy birds no wonder they are shivering out there!

All of mine including my geese love to eat ice and snow. maybe their hoping it will disappear faster if they eat it.

mine do this too. 2 summers in a row we had hail storms. The Pekins and Runners both stood outside and tried to catch the falling ice. Then went around like little vacuum cleaners and ate it all up. My chickens also eat snow all of the time.

Thats funny you know that hail probably hurt when hitting them, we had an ice storm couple weeks ago and those ice pellets hurt me when I was out there in it. of course the only place they would feel the hail would be on their faces but still. ouch
