My hens are 10/11 weeks old. Recently when I come out in the mornings to see them, two have started making this honking noise! I can only assimilate it to a boys voice changing . I always want to make sure my girls are happy and this is my first backyard chicken venture so I'm not fluent in chickenese yet. What does it MEAN?! Also, I've put a tarp over their run because the heat has been excessive here in SW Oklahoma, like 103* so they have more shade. They have plenty of feed and fresh water.

Sounds normal to me and also you don't make mention of a rooster but if the black/white one is only 10/11 weeks old it looks like a cockerel

The black/white is a Dominique. She's SUPPOSED to be a girl....boy wouldn't that be a surprise lol! I got them from Meyer Hatchery.

It is rare but can happen. At the beginning of the video the sound was a bit like first crowing that they do.
Keep us posted!

The honking cracks me up!
Yep, their voices are changing from peeping to clucking, with this honking in between.

That Dominique certainly looks to be a male with all that wattlage and color at 10wks.
