Are pigeon shows still pretty common in the US?

My father was a pigeon fancier in the 70's and 80's. As a child I remember his coops in the barn, stacks of old APJ issues, and strings of bands hanging on nails in the barn. I only went to a couple of shows with him in the early 80's, but I was only 4 or 5 and was so bored out of my mind I never went to any after that. I still have all of his awards/trophies. Do they still have those smaller shows or are they larger regional/national competitions (or non-existent)?

I have zero time for what my father did and from what I remember most competitors were older retirees. Just a bit nostalgic today.

Hm. I was mistaken. My parents bought our house growing up in the late 60's, and they had two babies, so I assumed he didn't really get into pigeon shows until the 70's. The rest of his awards are in storage, but this one is hanging up in my kitchen.

Thanks for sharing! Many of the pigeon fanciers locally that I’ve met are in your father’s generation or a similar age.

The Faircount Pigeon Show in Connecticut is still popular. It’s the only pigeon show I’ve been able to find in the New England area.
