Are rooster collars dangerous?

Well you can try the rooster collar - but do be very aware. I have heard of people who do the black box, or bring him in the house at night, but truthfully, that would be time taking every day.

I suggest you ask at where you get your feed, or contact the county extension agent, or a local 4-H club, or your local poultry club.

The thing is, keeping a noisy rooster, can get the neighbors to complain, and you can loose the whole flock.

Then you need to cull him intentionally rather than kill him accidentally. This isn't meant to be rude or uncaring, but what other choice do you have to offer the bird a quality life?

I guess I'd rather try to use the rooster collar and give him a chance to live rather than kill him intentionally. We do have a friend though who might be willing to take him in. But it is quite possible that they'll turn into rooster nuggets.

I have heard of black box and have gotten a lot of results on google saying that I should blackout his coop. First of all, I'm not sure how to do that, but it sounds like to me that it means to black out everywhere he's going to be. I definitely won't be able to do that because he's staying with my girls and they certainly don't need to be in a blackout box.
And yes, I am aware of neighbors complaining. I'm thinking about maybe talking to them about the noises if I can.

If a rooster is a problem for you then it is likely a problem for others in your area so it might be difficult finding someone to adopt.

There's nothing wrong with that. You have a problem and he has a solution.

Ignore any talk of culling, humanely or otherwise. Death is the ultimate “poor quality of life”. If you are worried about city ordinances in your area, know that most do not remotely cover having a house rooster. That is perfectly legal! The crowing you just get used to. For messes get him a chicken diaper. Many people have house roosters and they make awesome companions.
