I've heard that Silkie bantams are not heat hardy at all, but recently i've seen people say they are. I'm ordering some chicks once i move down to Louisiana later this summer, and it gets rather hot during the summer. I've seen 105 in Baton Rouge before. Would a silkie be ok in such heat? Thanks!

Yes, depending on how much you take care of them. Shade and fresh, cool water is a must! Dust bath area too. Some people set up misting systems for their birds, but as I watched all of mine with the high humidity and temps we had here in MO last summer, mine all preferred the dry, cool dirt, as opposed to the mist. From this, I think it may be more of the humidity bothers them as it is the heat. When it's already wringing wet in the air, they did not want to get wetter, and headed for shade and dry dirt. Placing frozen milk jugs around their run where they sit and coop will help too, as will a fan. Good luck!

thanks! i appreciate the help!
