Hi,
Bit of a random question but I was wondering if people hire out their cockerels for a couple of weeks to act as a stud for a flock of hens?
I've got a hen that I'd like to breed from, and would like to match her up to a good standard cockerel without having to keep the cockerel permanently. Anyone heard of people offering this service before, is it a thing in the poultry world?

Due to quarantine recommendations, I would imagine no one would want to do that.

I don't know. I don't believe it is something people advertise, because of disease, and possible pecking order injury reasons. But I bet you could ask around your area to see if anyone would give you a Rooster for bit. What do you mean by breed? Is she broody, or are you hoping to incubate her eggs? Because if you plan on forcing her to go broody, I don't know how well it would work. Good luck with you stud rooster idea, Avery

I imagine it is done within show breeding circles. If you are looking for a particular breed if rooster, try contacting the breed society. If you aren't fussy, then try your local Facebook group or 4H

Thanks for the replies :)

By breeding I meant have fertile eggs for the incubator. She hasn't started to lay yet as she's only 15 weeks old, but I can tell she's going to be a good one. I just wanted to ask and see what people thought. I know people put hens and cockerels together in breeding pens sometimes, so that's what I was picturing trying. But your are right about the risk of disease, hadn't really thought that bit through
