Are there any backyard astronomers here???

Hubby and I just getting into astronomy but are avid stargazers, especially since moving to our new home 2 years ago and being surrounded by woods as opposed to the neighbors' security lights.

We bought our first telescope after moving out here and being amazed at all of the stars we could see. We made a comment about how cool it would be to have a telescope and went up to Missouri to make a feed run and just happened to pass a yard sale that had one sitting out. We stopped on our way back home and was able to pick it up for $20.00! It's an older one and nothing fancy but it's perfect for learning on.

Then a few months ago, my aunt gave us my uncles' telescope. We need to buy some parts for it before we can use it but now we have a his-n-hers!

Back in TN, at our old place, about all we could see real well was the Big Dipper, due to all the lights. Out here, I have trouble finding the BD because of all the other stars that are visible! I love it!

Our friend turned us on to EarthSky's meteor shower guide and we thoroughly enjoy the site.

Some of our favorite times here are having a small fire in the fire pit and watching the sky for meteors!
